| 'The Island' is a satire set in Northern Ireland
during the last days of the troubles. |
| |
Ieuan Evans, a news reporter on the Belfast
Telegraph, is returning home from work when he comes across
a figure slumped against a bollard on a traffic island.
Evans recognises Donal McDaid, a local
tyrefitter. McDaid explains that he is 'demonstrating'
- a sit-down for peace in response to a shooting on the
Antrim Road, Belfast earlier in the week. |
| |
| Though Evans is sceptical of McDaid's action
he eventually joins him. When the local RUC charge them
with 'obstruction' the two men attract the attention of
the local press. Once in print, their protest starts to
reach a wider audience and to catch the popular imagination. |
